What if Synthroid 50 mcg feels like too much?

Last reviewed · 3 min read · Updated

Bone review card, cobalt edge, lime chip: too-much tremor cloth, tablet questioned

Adverse reactions on SYNTHROID are primarily those of hyperthyroidism from therapeutic overdosage: palpitations, chest pain, heat intolerance, tremor, insomnia, diarrhea, weight loss. Reduce the dose or stop temporarily if those signs show up. SYNTHROID is not a weight-loss tablet in people with a normal thyroid.

What does too much 50 mcg feel like?

Instruct patients to notify their healthcare provider if they experience rapid or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath, leg cramps, headache, nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness, tremors, change in appetite, weight gain or loss, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive sweating, heat intolerance, fever, changes in menstrual periods, hives or skin rash, or any other unusual medical event.

Chest pain, new palpitations, or collapse after a dose jump is emergency care, not a forum rating.

Is 50 mcg a weight-loss tablet if I am already euthyroid?

The boxed warning bars SYNTHROID for obesity or weight loss. Doses in the range of daily hormonal requirements are ineffective for weight reduction in euthyroid patients. Larger doses may produce serious or even life-threatening toxicity, particularly when given with sympathomimetic amines.

That boxed warning sits at the top of the insert. A website selling 50 mcg for a cut is selling against the label. The OTC scan is the aisle version of the same no.

Can I keep extra 50 mcg because I feel great and the TSH is low?

A suppressed TSH with a 'I feel amazing' speech can still be over-replacement. Increased bone resorption and lower bone mineral density can follow chronic over-replacement, especially in postmenopausal women. Rhythm risk does not wait for you to feel poorly.

Cancer-suppression targets are a different conversation with endocrinology. Do not borrow a lower TSH goal from a forum. This scan does not publish a suppression number.

Which labelled systems show overdosage first?

General: fatigue, increased appetite, weight loss, heat intolerance, fever, excessive sweating. Neurologic: headache, hyperactivity, nervousness, anxiety, irritability, insomnia. Cardiovascular: palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, higher pulse and blood pressure, heart failure, angina, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest.

Confusion and disorientation can appear in overdosage. Cerebral embolism, shock, coma, and death have been reported. Symptoms may not show until several days after an ingestion.

What does the insert do when those signs show up?

Reduce the SYNTHROID dosage or discontinue temporarily if signs or symptoms of overdosage occur. Start supportive treatment based on the person's medical status.

For current poisoning advice the insert names Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or www.poison.org. This board does not remote-titrate a racing pulse.

Could biotin fake this picture on a 50 mcg strip?

High-dose biotin can print a fake hyperthyroid pair with a quiet exam. Hold at least two days and redraw before you treat a gummy as Graves. The biotin scan is that hold.

A loud exam plus chest pain is still a same-week call. Do not wait for a perfect strip if the heart is the complaint.

Board thread

Answers follow the U.S. Synthroid label.

Polly A. Can I stay a bit high on purpose for energy?

Board reply

Ordinary replacement aims at a normalized TSH in primary hypothyroidism. Extra T4 for energy is how atrial risk and bone loss accrue. This scan will not bless a wellness extra.

Viv K. Pulse 110 on 50 mcg, I feel wired. Wait for the next annual?

Board reply

No. Rapid heartbeat and heat intolerance are labelled reasons to notify the clinician. The insert says reduce or hold if overdosage signs appear. That is a same-week call.

Enzo R. I took two 50 mcg tablets by mistake. Poison line?

Board reply

Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or use www.poison.org, and tell the clinician who writes the tablet. Symptoms may lag by days. Do not invent a third tablet to 'balance' it.
