Is there a generic for Vasotec next to Hypernil 20 mg?

Last reviewed · 3 min read · Updated

Bone review card, cobalt edge, lime chip: US generic blister, export name in shadow

Yes. Vasotec's generic is enalapril maleate. US tablets come as 2.5, 5, 10, and 20 mg. Hypernil is an export name for that same INN, not a second molecule and not the letters a US generic vial has to print. A substitution conversation is enalapril for Vasotec, not Hypernil for Vasotec. Twenty milligrams is one strength on that ladder.

A generic fill still needs potassium and creatinine

Switching stamps does not retire hyperkalemia or a creatinine bump. About one percent of hypertensive trial patients saw potassium above 5.7 mEq/L. Draw the labs the clinician dated. The renal-lane signal is the short watch.

Cough is class-wide on ACE inhibitors. A new generic bottle will not quiet a bradykinin tickle. Quality of that cough lives on the cough-chip signal.

The boxed pregnancy stop does not care about the stamp

Discontinue enalapril when pregnancy is detected. Fetal injury from renin-system drugs is a boxed warning on Vasotec and on the generic. Hypernil letters do not soften it.

Conception plans belong on the chart before a late period. The pregnancy scan is that stop.

Generic 20 mg does not tell you once versus twice

Hypertension often lives once daily inside 10 to 40 mg. Heart failure is frequently twice daily, and 20 mg can be one of those two swallows. The generic name does not choose the clock. The sig does.

If pressure fades late in a once-daily interval, the label lets the total go up or the day split in two. That is a clinic call, not a second brand. The duration scan stays on those hours.

Which strengths a US generic order can name

The labelled oral tablets are 2.5, 5, 10, and 20 mg. Iron oxides sit in the 10 mg and 20 mg tablets along with lactose, magnesium stearate, sodium bicarbonate, and starch. That is tablet identity, not a reason to split a 20 unless the prescriber said so.

A script that says Vasotec 20 mg can often be filled as enalapril 20 mg. A script that says Hypernil 20 mg still needs a US INN on the line. See how a US line gets written.

Hypernil is not the US generic print

Export cartons can stamp Hypernil on enalapril maleate. A US window is not required to stock that stamp. Chart enalapril so two bottles do not look like two ACE inhibitors.

If you swallowed Hypernil abroad and now refill here, bring the old strip. The new vial will likely say enalapril 20 mg. Same daily milligrams only if the clinician kept that total.

Vasotec and generic enalapril share one INN

Enalapril maleate is the drug. Vasotec is the US reference brand on the label this scan follows. After hydrolysis the active species is enalaprilat. A generic 20 mg tablet is that same salt, not a milder cousin.

Substitution, if your plan allows it, is between Vasotec and listed enalapril tablets. It is not a hunt for Hypernil art. The panel keeps the identity card. This page only answers the generic question.

Answers follow the U.S. Vasotec (enalapril) label.

Henrik Bode Can I keep both Vasotec and a generic 20 at home?

Board reply

Two bottles can become two swallows by accident. Retire the one the clinician did not count. Chart one INN and one daily total.

Tomas Raine If my script says Vasotec 20, will I get Hypernil?

Board reply

A US pharmacy usually fills generic enalapril 20 mg, or Vasotec if the brand is required. Hypernil is an export name. Ask the window to say the INN out loud.

Nia Khalil Is generic 20 mg weaker than Vasotec 20 mg?

Board reply

The labelled salt is enalapril maleate at that milligram. Export art does not write a weaker tablet. If pressure or labs change after a maker switch, call the prescriber with the new bottle.
