Is there a generic for Robaxin 500 mg?

Last reviewed · 3 min read · Updated

Bone review card, cobalt edge, lime chip: two names, 500 mg tablets

Yes. Generic methocarbamol 500 mg tablets are marketed in the United States on the same INN as Robaxin 500 mg. The adult opening on that strength is still three tablets four times a day. A different stamp does not write a milder CNS-depressant sentence. Shape and dye can change; the milligram row does not.

Does a generic 500 mg tablet keep the 1,500 mg qid opening?

Adult initial dosage on the 500 mg tablet is three tablets four times daily. Maintenance is two tablets four times daily. Six grams a day for 48 to 72 hours is the recommended early total, then about 4 g. Generic 500 mg does not rewrite those numbers.

A clinic may still write a lower daily total because drowsiness is common. That is a prescriber choice, not a generic-versus-brand split. Compare tablet maths on 500 mg versus 750 mg.

What do you ask if the vial looks unfamiliar?

Read the INN and the milligram on the vial before the first swallow. If the paper said methocarbamol 500 mg and the vial says 750 mg, stop and call. Do not 'make up the difference' with extra tablets.

A pharmacist can show the imprint. That five-minute check is cheaper than a night of unplanned 6 g from mixed leftovers.

Does a new stamp mean less sleepiness?

No. The mechanism in humans has not been established and may be general CNS depression. The drug has no direct action on the contractile mechanism of striated muscle. Brand nostalgia does not unknot a fiber the generic 'failed' to unknot.

If a new oval feels stronger, log the hour and every other sedative before blaming the imprint. Hidden PM antihistamines explain more surprises than a dye change.

Can the window substitute 750 mg if 500 mg is written?

Not as a silent swap. 750 mg tablets have their own opening: two tablets four times daily. Mixing leftover 750 mg maths onto a 500 mg script is how people invent a gram total nobody wrote.

Ask the window to fill the strength on the paper. If 500 mg is back-ordered, that is a call to the prescriber, not a DIY tablet-count conversion at the register.

What does a 500 mg tablet look like on the label?

DailyMed rows describe 500 mg tablets as orange, film-coated, and round on several products. Imprints differ by maker. 750 mg tablets are often a different color and a modified capsule shape. Do not identify the drug by color alone if two bottles sit in the same drawer.

Store at 20 to 25 C (68 to 77 F). Keep the tight container. Heat in a glove box wrecks a film coat like any other tablet. Getting the first written line is the order scan.

Is generic 500 mg the same molecule as Robaxin?

Methocarbamol is the INN. Robaxin is a US brand on that molecule. Generic 500 mg film-coated tablets are methocarbamol 500 mg. The labelled adult rows - three tablets qid, then two tablets qid - travel with the milligram, not with the logo.

FDA first approved the molecule in 1957. You are not hunting a rare brand-only chemical. You are matching the 500 mg tablet this cluster uses. See methocarbamol 500 mg panel.

Omar Flint Can I split a 750 mg leftover to fake a 500 mg dose?

Board reply

Do not invent that conversion. 750 mg tablets have their own labelled counts. Ask for a 500 mg fill if that is the written strength.

Cole Varga Is generic 500 mg weaker than Robaxin 500?

Board reply

No. Both name methocarbamol 500 mg. The opening three-tablet qid row is the same. Sedation is still the felt effect. A different imprint is not a lighter CNS depressant.

Rhea Kim Pharmacy filled orange rounds. Box memory is a scored brand tablet. Wrong drug?

Board reply

Makers use different imprints and dyes. Read the INN and 500 mg on the vial. If those match the script, it is the same molecule. Call the pharmacist if either line disagrees.
